What is Cantina Band?

Cantina Band is a musical act founded by Travis W. Hendrix with the intention of bringing classic music from movies, video games, and television into a live setting. Like many people of his generation, Travis grew up being inspired by the iconic music from Star Wars, The Legend of Zelda, Mario Bros, and other games and films. With an ever-expanding repertoire and a cast of enthusiastic professional musicians, Cantina Band is truly a one-of-a-kind act that must be experienced to be believed!

Our Musicians

Travis Hendrix

Travis is the clarinetist, arranger, and founder of Cantina Band. During his career, Travis has been fortunate to have played venues such as The Fillmore, Yoshi's SF, Slim's, and Whisky A Go Go, and shared stages with artists such as Cake, Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks, and Frank London's Klezmer Allstars. He has toured nationally with a half-dozen bands, played on main stages at renowned music festivals, and received awards and recognition for his work with various ensembles. He has also worked as an instrumentalist, music director, and composer on several theater productions. He has studied music with Michael Bolivar, Chris Amberger, Ben Goldberg, and many others.

Annie Cilley

Annie Cilley is Cantina Band's violinist and occasional vocalist. She has played across the country with acts including Orchestra Euphonos, Staro Vino, The Crux, and Church Marching band. In additional to being a violinist she is also a singer-songwriter and composer, and she fronts the Bay-Area based gypsy jazz group Plectrum Ensemble as a vocalist. Annie's background also goes much further than her work as a musician, and her experience in dance, theater, poetry, and visual art inform her music and lend an additional depth to her performances. Annie has received recognition and awards from the San Francisco Bay Guardian, the Press Democrat, and the North Bay Bohemian for her work as a musician.

Kalei Yamanoha

Cantina Band is lucky to have Kalei Yamanoha, seeing as he has to be one of the Greater Bay Area's busiest accordionists. He can be found performing with a number of ensembles, including The Vivants and The Crux, and he also freelances with a host of other bands, collaborates as a composer with a circus, and performs regularly as a solo accordionist. He has received three North-Bay Music awards for his work with different bands, and has been awarded "Best Musical Collaboration" by the San Francisco Bay Guardian, "Best Sound and Music Design" by the Sonoma County Theater Awards Academy, and has been voted top ten "Bands We Love" by the Press Democrat for his work with The Crux.

Juliana Frick

Juliana not only plays upright bass in Cantina Band, but also lends her exuberant energy and contagious positive attitude to the group. Juliana also plays upright bass with a number of local groups. Currently, she performs with Sour Mash Hug Band (Klezmer, Hot Jazz, Cabaret) and the Galbeno Balkan Band (Roma music). She has played in the all-female clown troupe Circus Finelli, with Austin-based Vana-Mazi, and Russian music ensemble Sharmanka. Juliana has lead ensembles performing her own original compositions. She received her BA in music performance and composition under Marty Ehrlich at Hampshire College. In addition to being a musician, Juliana is also a physical theater and circus performer, and this side of her serves to make her musical performances exceptionally energetic, engaging, and entertaining.
